The town of Bintulu has evolved markedly
over the last few years. The new Bintulu is a premier, well-planned
and environmentally attractive industrial town developed by the
Bintulu Developement Authority. Bintulu has a diverse cultural and
religious background from a population of over 100,000 covering an
area of about 12,166.21 sq km. Natural and luxuriant tropical
rainforests are well conserved and preserved despite the area being
a booming industrial centre brought about by the implementation of
mammoth and multibillion ringgit industrial projects. As a town geographically situated half way
between Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Bintulu is a central
gateway to tourist spots like the Bakun Resort, the Niah Caves, Mulu
National Park, Longan Bunut National Park, Lambir National Park,
Sibuti Wildlife Sanctuary, Rejang Pelagus, Belaga and the Bario
Highlands.
